Thomas Blackwell, MD, FACEP
Dr. Blackwell is Executive Director and Chief Medical Officer for MED-1 Partners. He is also a practicing emergency physician at Carolinas Medical Center and serves as Medical Director for both the Center for Prehospital Medicine and the Mecklenburg EMS Agency in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Dr. Blackwell received his undergraduate degree with honors from The Citadel Military College in Charleston, South Carolina. Post graduation, he finished medical school Cum Laude at Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. Blackwell completed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He is married with two children.
Gerald W. Fischer, MD
Gerald W. Fischer, MD, Colonel US Army (Ret.) is MED-1 Partners' Medical Director for Infectious Disease. Dr. Fischer has over 30 years experience as an infectious disease physician and has trained numerous military infectious disease specialists currently deployed worldwide. Fischer was an active duty army officer for 23 years and retired as a colonel in 1993. He continues to work with the military as an advisor at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and is currently focused on pandemic and bio-terrorism preparedness.
Admiral Luther F. Schriefer
Rear Admiral Luther F. Schriefer, US Navy (Ret.) is Managing Director for MED-1 Partners. Admiral Schriefer has a long history of high-level service in both government and private enterprise. From 1992-1994, he served as Director of Latin American Policy for the Secretary of Defense. He also served as Managing Director for the United Arab Emirates military healthcare system with responsibility for ongoing healthcare issues and disaster response. Admiral Schriefer was Naval Base Commander for disaster response and support for San Diego and the region of Southern California, Arizona and Nevada. He holds a BS in Naval engineering and an MS in international affairs from George Washington University.
Mr. Jeff Fischer
Jeff Fischer, Director of Business and Government Affairs, is responsible for MED-1 Partners' client development. Mr. Fischer creates, identifies and cultivates opportunities suited to MED-1's disaster response capabilities. For six years, Mr. Fischer served as an executive vice president and CFO in the biotechnology industry. He is a former infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps and holds an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.
